There's something about fall that makes me want chocolate and pumpkin at the same time. So instead of choosing, I put them together in one pan, and these pumpkin brownies were born.
You get a rich, fudgy chocolate layer on the bottom and a soft, spiced pumpkin layer on top, swirled together so every bite has a little bit of both. When I shared these on Instagram, so many of you asked for the recipe, so I'm finally putting it here where it belongs.
The best part is how simple they are. One batter, split into two bowls. One gets the chocolate, the other gets the pumpkin. Pour, swirl, bake. No mixer, no fuss, and your whole kitchen will smell like fall. 🎃🍫
My little tip: watch your bake time. At 25 minutes the center stays gooey, which is how I love them warm with a cup of coffee. At 28 minutes they set up fudgy but still really moist, perfect for slicing and sharing.
2 eggs
1 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup chocolate chips, melted
½ cup butter, melted
2 tablespoons cacao powder
1 cup pumpkin purée
½ cup pumpkin butter
1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
½ cup chocolate chips, for topping
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
2. In a large bowl, whisk the eggs and brown sugar together until creamy. Add the vanilla and flour and stir just until combined.
3. Divide the batter evenly between 2 bowls.
4. For the chocolate layer, stir the melted chocolate and melted butter together until smooth. Pour it into one bowl of batter, add the cacao powder, and stir to combine.
5. For the pumpkin layer, add the pumpkin purée, pumpkin butter, and pumpkin pie spice to the second bowl. Stir to combine.
6. Pour the chocolate mixture into the prepared pan and spread it evenly. Pour the pumpkin mixture over the top.
7. Use a spatula to gently swirl the two layers together. Sprinkle the remaining ½ cup chocolate chips over the top.8.
8. Bake for 25 minutes for a really gooey center, or 28 minutes for fudgy but still very moist brownies.
9. Let the brownies cool in the pan before lifting them out and slicing into 10 pieces.
10. Enjoy them slightly warm while the chocolate chips are still melty. 🤍
