Homemade Turkey Gravy

Homemade Turkey Gravy

Approx. Time:
10 min
Servings:
About 8 servings (1/4th cup each)

There’s nothing like a good homemade gravy to bring a Thanksgiving plate together. My son loves pouring it over everything — turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing… all of it. And honestly, making gravy from scratch is so simple once you know the basics.

This version is exactly what I made in my Thanksgiving video: buttery, smooth, full of flavor from the turkey drippings, and ready in just a few minutes. It’s also one of those things you can make ahead if you’re cooking for a big crowd — just reheat it gently and add a splash of broth if it gets too thick.

If you’re like me and you love a rich, cozy holiday plate, this gravy is a must.

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 cups turkey drippings (strained, warm)
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter.
  2. Add 1 tablespoon of flour and whisk continuously for about 1 minute until it becomes lightly golden.
  3. Mix in 1 teaspoon paprika and let it bloom for a few seconds.
  4. Slowly pour in 2 cups of warm turkey drippings, whisking constantly to avoid lumps.
  5. Bring the mixture to a soft boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for a few minutes until thickened.
  6. Season with salt and pepper if needed.
  7. Serve warm over turkey, mashed potatoes, or stuffing.
